Day 32 | Authorities

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 1 Timothy 2:1–2

As a Christian, you don’t have to agree with government leaders—whether it’s the President, the governor, or the mayor. You certainly don’t have to approve of their actions, their motives, their positions, or the results thereof (many of them you shouldn’t approve of).

But regardless of who is in office, as a Christian, you do have a responsibility to pray for those in positions of authority, whether you voted for them or not.

How should you pray for them? That they would steward their authority in such a way that the gospel can continue to go forth and the kingdom of God will continue to advance.

At the end of the day, all authority comes from God. He places or permits people in positions of authority according to his sovereign plans and purposes. We may not always see it or understand it, but we still put our trust in him, not in kings, princes, presidents, or people in authority (see Psalm 146:3-5).

Prayer prompt: Pray for community leaders and those in positions of authority.
