Day 25 | Joyful Service

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23

Ever since the sin entered the world, work has been cursed (see Genesis 3:17-19). That doesn’t mean work is bad—it just means that it’s hard.

In the context of the church and its ministry, the work is never-ending (at least until Jesus returns). There is always one more sermon to prepare, one more ministry leader or volunteer to recruit and train, one more hospital visit, one more counseling session, and so on. This is true not just for pastors and staff members, but for you as faithful volunteers as well! If we’re all honest, it can be easy to drift into the “let’s just get this over with” mentality—even in our service to Jesus and his church!

Today we pray for our staff, our deacons, and our incredible team of ministry leaders and volunteers—that we would remember that we are working first and foremost for the Lord and that we will receive our reward from him, so let us serve with joy!

Prayer prompt: Pray for staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers to serve with joy.
