Day 10 | Parenting

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4–9
The Great Commission mandates that, as followers of Jesus, we are to “Go…make disciples…teaching them to observe all that [Jesus] has commanded [us]” (Matthew 28:19-20). And for many of us, that mandate begins inside the walls of our homes. As parents, the Lord has entrusted us with the spiritual growth of our children—it is our responsibility to train them in the “discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). Let’s pray for ourselves and other parents in our church family, that we would commit to the hard, messy, but eternally rewarding work of discipling our children.
Prayer prompt: Pray for parents as the primary disciple-makers of their children.
